Boscobel to Celebrate Summer with its Second Annual Ice Cream Social

July 10th, 2019

Live Music and Sweet Treats – Sunday, July 28

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Garrison, NY – July 2019) – On Sunday, July 28 (Raindate: August 4) from 11:00am – 3:00pm, Boscobel House and Gardens will host its second annual Ice Cream Social in the beautiful shaded forecourt between the Historic House Museum and Boscobel’s Maple Lane.

The event celebrates summer in a style that harkens back to simpler times when friends and neighbors would gather on the village green for ice cream. Guests can choose from a selection of today’s flavors and those that were popular in 19th-century America, including raspberry, peach, and mint.

The celebrated violinist Gwen Laster and her quartet will perform an uplifting repertoire on the theme of “summertime and summer breezes.” Ms. Laster is a 2018 Puffin Foundation recipient and a 2018/19 Jubilation Foundation Teaching Artist Fellow. Musician Thaddeus MacGregor—known for his charming musical toys and top hat—will also perform casual, period guitar music.

Throughout the event, the Historic House Museum will be open for guests to explore at their own pace and direction with expert guides stationed to offer insights. Family-friendly, period games will be available on the lawn.

“Not only does the Ice Cream Social connect guests to our historic house’s original era,” says Executive Director Jennifer Carlquist, “It’s also a perfect chance to enjoy Boscobel’s house and grounds, great music, and the sweeter side of history.”
