In the first quarter of the 19th century, a farm provided virtually all of the year-round culinary, medicinal, and household needs for everyone who lived there. Boscobel Museum Educator Lisa DiMarzo is back in the Herb Garden with Matthew Weigman, horticulture chair of the Philipstown Garden Club, for a 20-minute exploration of how the plants in this kitchen garden would have been used by a colonial family around circa 1800 to nourish, heal and outfit a household. Specifically, how preserving food kept a family alive.
