Accessibility

Boscobel is committed to the ideal of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) which requires non-discrimination in public accommodations.

In 2018, with the help of a grant from the Preserve New York Grant Program, made possible through funding from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, with additional support from The Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, Boscobel conducted a study of its site to determine the most feasible ways to expand accessibility to guests with mobility impairments.

While our historic house and gallery currently have limited access, we continue to pursue and implement accommodations to make our facility and programs accessible to as broad a range of audiences as possible.

Visitor Center and Grounds
Handicapped parking is on a level macadam surface, less than 100 feet of the Visitor Center.
An accessible restroom is immediately available at the Visitor Center.
A level, 500-foot-long brick walkway takes guests from the Visitor Center to the Boscobel House.
Serpentine brick walkways traverse the grounds and are fully accessible, allowing guests with mobility restrictions easy access to the Apple Orchard, Rose Garden and Belvedere overlook.
The Herb Garden has level pathways but the pebble surface restricts wheelchair access.

Note: A limited number of manual wheelchairs are available at no charge for the convenience of our guests.

Boscobel House and Gallery
Handicapped parking near the House and Gallery can be arranged with advanced notice.
There is no wheelchair access to the House or the Gallery.
There are a number of steps into and within the House and Gallery.
– Seven steps up from grade into the main floor of House
– Sixteen steps from the main floor to the second floor of the House
– Nine steps down from grade into the Gallery
